Musical Instrument Rentals

Blue Sky Music Store offers musical instrument rentals to students and schools in the greater Capital Region.  We service the students of the Bethlehem Central School District, Voorheesville School District, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Schools, Berne-Knox-Westerlo Schools, Greenville Schools, and the Guilderland Central School District, just to name a few.

We are happy to offer quality instrument rentals, providing such brands as Yamaha, Selmer, Holton, LeBlanc, Pearl, and Schiller among others - in a rent-to-own program where your rental payments build up equity so you can eventually own an instrument.  If you're concerned that your child will lose interest, our rental program is the way to go - getting started can be as little as $15.00 for the first 4 1/2 months!  You can either visit our music store or rent on-line from the comfort of your home.  When renting on line, choose " Pick Up At Store" for faster service and don't forget to choose your child's school!  Also, there is no need to purchase any additional accessories while in the rental site, as we have the specific accessories that your school requires here in our store.  The "starter kits" that are in that site for example, contain more items than are required by your school.

Rent-to-Own

Due to New York State law, it's technically called 'Rent to Rent'.  All this means is that once your equity builds up and you're ready to purchase, you must return your current instrument and purchase a different one of equal or greater value.  This is actually a good thing because the instrument you end up with can be newer, or can even be upgraded from an entry level model to an intermediate or better model.  Every dollar of the rental portion of your payment spent on a rental instrument at Blue Sky is equity that stays with you whether you upgrade to a newer or higher quality instrument, and even if your child decides to change instruments, switching from violin to trumpet, for example.  If you rent a violin for 6 months, and your child decides to change to trumpet, those 6 months of equity stay with you towards the purchase of the trumpet.  Please note that if you choose to return your instrument rather than keep renting over the summer, it closes your account and you forfeit your equity.

Insurance

LDW stands for "Liability Damage Waiver" (in other words, insurance).  Although this is completely optional, we strongly recommend it.   If a valve breaks, or another child accidentally steps on your horn (yes, this happens) - you're covered!  Just simply exchange the instrument for a different one and you're on your way, with your child never being  without an instrument, waiting for a repair or using an old, beat up 'loaner' instrument.

We are familiar with & we stock the books and supplies that your child's school requires for band or orchestra.  You can purchase them here at our music store when you pick up your child's instrument.

$20.00 for the first 4 1/2 months (plus $10.00 optional LDW)!  After the initial 4 1/2 months, regular 'off season' rates apply.

$32.00/month (plus $12.00/mo. optional LDW)

Group B Rates:

• Alto Sax
• Cello (all sizes)
• Oboe
• Trigger Trombone

Trial Period Rates (for school students, offered from 6/1 - 10/31 only):

$50.00 for the first 4 1/2 months (plus $10.00 optional LDW)!  After the initial 4 1/2 months, regular 'off season' rates apply.

Regular Rates:

$45.00/month (plus $13.00/mo. optional LDW)

Group C Rates:

• French Horn
• Tenor Sax
• Baritone Horn / Euphonium
• Bass  Clarinet

Trial Period Rates (for school students, offered from 6/1 - 10/31 only):

$75.00 for the first 4 1/2 months (plus $15.00 optional LDW)!  After the initial 4 1/2 months, 'off season' rates apply.

Regular Rates:

$68.00/mo. (plus $17.00/month optional LDW)

Group D Rates:

• String Bass (all sizes)

Trial Period Rates (for school students, offered from 6/1 - 10/31 only):

$75.00 for the first 4 1/2 months (plus $15.00 optional LDW)! After the initial 4 1/2 months, 'off season' rates apply.

Regular Rates:

$75.00/mo. (plus $19.00/month optional LDW)

Instrument Returns:

We are currently taking in instrument returns during our current music store hours.

** Please note: Many people forget that this is a 'rent to own' program, and you have accumulated equity in your instrument which can eventually be used to purchase an instrument. If your child intends on continuing in the fall, we strongly advise that you keep your instrument over the summer in order to keep that equity. If you choose to return the instrument and close your account, you will be forfeiting all of your equity.  If you think that you may be ready to purchase, please call or email us and we will be happy to assist you. **
